Nicole and Gregg were married this past weekend and I was so excited when they booked us for a cake!  They have since relocated to San Diego, but some of you may remember them.  (Nicole was the face of the weekend evening news on KION and Gregg was the weekend weather man on KSBW.)  They are such an endearing couple and I was excited to present them with a classy, elegant and grand cake.

The cake was deliverd to the Gathering, a darling little cottage house that has been turned into an event venue for intimate events.  It was red velvet with cream cheese filling and covered with cream fondant.  Sugar roses and petals cascade down the side of the cake.  A burgandy (clarit) ribbon circles the base of each cake.

Along with the cake, they ordered 80 of the $250 cookies, (chocolate chips, Hershey’s chocolate and walnuts) as finger food desserts for those who didn’t want cake.

When Bekki ordered her Motorcycle Groom’s cake, she also ordered some cookies for her son to have as his own little something “sweet” at their wedding. 

I loved making these little goodies.  They always turn out so cute and are the perfect finger food dessert for a wedding.

This little mini cake was for my amazing hair stylist again.  Seriously, he’s one of my best clients.  And I adore him.  If you ever need a fabulous cut or color, he’s the man.  Really, call him HERE and ask for Albert!  I love that he orders mini cakes, they are on my list of favorite things to make.  They are so cute and….well, MINI!

His little nephew adores the Incredible Hulk and skateboards, so he wanted the Hulk riding a skateboard.  Albert (which, by the way, we are now known as the Fabulously Sweet Duo (he’s the fabulous, I’m the sweet….get it?) texted me a picture of his nephew beaming with his cake!

The cake was chocolate with whipped cream filling.  The outside is covered with buttercream and airbrushed green.  The road is made from fondant and the collapsing wall, skateboard and figurine are all made from gumpaste.  The cake board is covered with Incredible Hulk comic strips and posters that were printed out and placed on the board and then covered with suran wrap.

Bekki used to work with my BFF at the Monterey Coast Brewing Company (you should go there, and eat their food.  It’s quite scrumptious).  She wanted to surprise her husband with a Groom’s cake at their wedding, and since they are hardcore motorcycle lovers, and tentatively headed to Sturgis for their honeymoon, the cake them was motorcycle road trip. 

My assistant (aka my sister, my little worker bee for the week) looked up the information for the road trip info (mileage is approx), made the little ducks out of gum paste and cut out all of the road signs.  She also made the trees that went around the cake.  The motorcycle is made out of gumpaste and set ontop of a fondant road.  The shoulder of the road is represented by brown sugar and then the green grass was piped all along the sides of the cake and cake board.

The cake flavor was marble with carmel buttercream filling. 

Bekki also ordered a dozen cookies for her son…but those are so cute I want to dedicate a entirely separate post for them.   I know you are dying of anticipation.

My adorable delivery girl Alexis had her baby shower last weekend.  She is due with her little boy the beginning of September, although my bets are on her delivering early.   

Her shower was set up beautifully and her dessert table made a sweet addition to her baby shower decor!

Flavors for her shower included a marble cake with chocolate buttercream, vanilla and chocolate cupcakes with chocolate buttercream topped with white sugar beads and red velvet/cream cheese cake balls dipped in dark chocolate and drizzled with white chocolate. 

Congratulations Alexis on your little one. 

He’s going to be such a handsome little baby!  I can’t wait to meet him.

My FABOOSH hair stylist ordered another cake.  He’s the best uncle in the world.  His neice and nephew were having birthdays and they were celebrating them together.  One of them is SUPER into the Jonas Brothers and the other into Camp Rock.  

I made everything coordinating using boy and girl colors.  Their guitars are made out of gumpaste and covered with luster dust to make them sparkle.  Each of them has their own little record (which of course will go platinum ), saying Happy Birthday.   Marbled fondant rocks and fondant sticks line the bottom tier.  There is even a little fondant fire on the side for them to toast marshmallows and make smore’s. 

The flavors in the cake were chocolate with banana icing and carrot with cream cheese icing.  With the cake were two dozen cupcakes, with the intial of each and in the same colors reflected on the cake.

Kandia and Doug are the first destination wedding couple that I have had the pleasure of creating a wedding cake for.  They had their wedding at The Clement, which is the newest hotel on Cannery Row.  And it’s B-E-A-U-tiful.

Kandia wanted her cake to incorporate the colors eggplant and sage.  We ended up combining three different cakes she had sent into one beautiful creation.  To raise the cake to appear taller, we put clear vases filled with flower petals.  Kandia and Doug had wanted a unique cake topper to depict their little family, and loved the idea of having figurine’s made in their images.  White sugar beads were used as Kandia’s pearl necklace, wedding ring and earrings.  Their cake flavors included red velvet with a cheesecake center and thin layer of cream cheese icing and chocolate espresso cake with espresso mousse filling.  The cakes were covered with an ivory fondant and enhanced with ribbon and fondant embellishments.   The beading around the cake was done with white sugar beads.

It was such a pleasure getting to know this darling couple via long distance, and I’m so happy for them!

Congratulations Kandia and Doug!

Not only were they our first destination wedding couple, it was the first wedding with everyone on the “Wedding A-Team” involved!  Who is on the “A-Team” you ask?

Samantha bought her husband skydiving lessons for his birthday present this year.  She wanted him to have a birthday cake that represented his present to see if he could guess what it was.  I was definately up for the challenge and after sketching up a few cakes and looking online for ideas, this is what I came up with!

Samantha was able to text me during dinner and told me her husband loved it and everyone at dinner loved all the detail. 

The cake was a vanilla pound cake with a raspberry purree filling.  It was covered in buttercream with fondant embellishments.  The skydiver is made out of gumpaste.

This little mini cake and cupcakes has a special place in my heart.  Kim was my very very very very first client.  I had posted an ad on craigslist, I had zero pictures of my work, and was hungry for a job.  She contacted me to make her a wedding cake since her and her husband were eloping.  I was thrilled beyond belief when she stumbled across my site again and asked me to make cupcakes and a mini cake for her son’s first birthday party.

My favorite part of the cake was the monkey topper.  He’s just so squeezeable.  I want to keep him as a pet!

We took the brood over to some of our favorites house yesterday to celebrate the 4th with a BBQ.  In order to tie the cupcakes in with the 4th of July them, I did some flags and fireworks with my edible markers.  I had seen this darling idea of drawing on marshmallows HERE and had been dying to try out some of her drawing tutorials.  I used the drawn on marshmallows as the cupcake toppers.  And voila, a 4th of July BBQ festive cupcake display.
